タイプ8006のマスフローメータは、気体質量流量の検知に用いられます。このマスフローを利用して、摂動（例：圧力または温度の変動など）とは無関係に、気体の質量流量を検知することができます。このセンサは熱原理（定温アネモメータ）に基づき機能します。その際に可変マスフローでは発熱体内のヒータ電流が、一定超過温度が維持されるよう変化します。計測はメインストリーム内で行われ、無補正で質量流量がそのまま送られます（説明を参照）。タイプ8006のMFMは、メインストリーム内で計測を行うことによる高ダイナミクスと微弱汚染感度を特徴を特徴としています。気体用流量メータとして多用途に使用できます。主な適用分野は、次に挙げる気体流量計測です：熱処理、テストベンチ、梱包テクノロジ、食品／飲料産業、環境テクノロジ
